yankees news...

first let me say to NY Mets fans...  you can try to believe all you want, but the magic just ain't there, so get real!  hahahaha!!!

June 2007

june 10, 2007
the yankees have a 6 game winning streak going and they've won 3 series against: boston red sux, chicago white sux, and pittsburgh pirates.  out of the 3 teams, the boston red sux is the only team w/ a winning record, so the yankees shouldn't get over-confident about beating the other 2.

on the positive side is, beckett and schilling didn't beat them, (they both got a ND), and they were able to hit papelbon, who ended up getting the loss (in boston, no less) cuz of an a-rod 9th inning HR off of him.   papelbon's era went from a 1.77 to 2.11.  HA!!!  the only down side was, mussina just can't beat the red sux these days.

the reason the yankees are winning: giambi is not in the lineup and the yankees are able to do more (hit and run and even men getting on base - damon is the DH allowing melky to play center, who has a better arm).  also, giambi didn't exactly have a good batting average.  i think he should just stay out of the lineup, even when he does come off the DL.

chinaboy pitched a complete game the on june 6 against the white sux, giving up just one run and only throwing 104 pitches.   pretty damn impressive.   he's considered the yanks pitching ace, but i would like to know what his current salary is compared to the "veteran" pitchers.

October 2006

october 2, 2006
game one of the ALDS begins tomorrow.  chinaboy is the game one starter against detroit.  he finished the regular season 19-6, and he should have been 20-5 if it weren't for the fact that torre decided to start him against boston (which he lost) instead of tampa bay, which he was originally scheduled to start against.  it would have made him the only 20 game winner in the major league.  boston was already out of the race, so there really wasn't any reason to not let him pitch against tampa.

also, why is joe torre starting sheffield at first base?   just for his bat?  i think that's a huge mistake.  i wonder if someone is forcing him to do it.  you can't make a move like that during the post season.  i'd rather have giambi at first rather than sheffield.  players always hit ground balls against the chinaboy so there are gonna be a ton of plays involving the first baseman... huge mistake.

here's a good article about the chinaboy.

August 2006

chinaboy is on a roll!!!  he had his first shutout (full game) against tampa bay, and today he shutout the best hitting team in baseball, the toronto blue jays, at yankee stadium.  17 innings w/o giving up a run!!!  joe torre had him only pitch 8 innings (104 pitches) and decided to have ron villone to finish the game, who ended up losing the shutout and gave up 2 runs.   oh well... not everyone can be like the chinaboy.

it's sad that i can't write about anyone else except the chinaboy, but he's the only one who's kicking ass on the team at the moment.   he shut down the indians and only gave up 5 hits and 1 walk.  the indians have an extremely strong hitting team, with a .287 team batting avg - that's fantastic.

the yankees were only able to get one run, which was a cano hr.   everyone is making cano out to be the hero, but when it came down to it, cano made the 3rd out when the bases were loaded, and he alone left a total of 5 men on base.

i don't think joe should have pulled chinaboy out.  i think chinaboy should have been given the benefit of the doubt and finish the game (as long as he didn't lose the lead).  he only thew 90 pitches when they pulled him.  hell, the last game the yanks won was the last time chinaboy pitched.  if it were johnson or mussina, joe would most likely have let them finish the game.

june 7, 2006:
ALRIGHT CHINABOY!!!  yesterday was the day he became a yankee!!!  he beat the redsux for the first time ever!  this was his 4th try as a starter, and he's 1-2 with 1 no-decision.  the score was 2-1 and david ortiz hurt him w/ a hr, but that was it.  he scattered 8 hits, 2BB, and 2SO, and mariano came in for the save.  whew.

farnsworth almost blew the lead in the 8th when manny hit a ball that would have tied (it was over the wall) it but melky cabrera leaped up and pulled it back in.  when ortiz was asked what he thought about the play, ortiz said something like:  that's what happens when you only hit it 400 feet, and that's why i hit mine 500 feet, so stuff like that doesn't happen.

the yankees have also taken over 1st place in their division, and this is all w/o their overpaid "superstars" like sheffield, matsui, and pavano, as well as jeter.  i've always believed when the yanks were winning all their championships, they didn't have all superstars.  they had brosius, oneill, tino, and whoever else i'm forgetting at the moment.  none of those guys were superstars, but the chemistry was there (not egos and steroids).   an example of sheffield's distractions, just look at the photo at the bottom of the page (see what he's doing w/ jeter?).

next game is schilling vs wright.  yankees better learn how to pummel schilling.

May 2006

may 24, 2006:
yankees took 2 out of 3 from the redsux.   just remember, they're down a bunch of hitters due to injuries (matsui (broken wrist), posada (sore hammie), damon (sore foot)).  after the chinaboy's meltdown (he better not choke the next time he pitches against boston) in game one, the yankees fought hard and won the next 2.  excellent.  their pitching wasn't all that great, but it was good enuf to hold the redsux from taking the lead and winning.  whew.

the yankee pitchers need to learn how to pitch to manny ramirez and david ortiz.   those 2 alone destroy the yankees.  unfortunately no one wants to buy out manny ramirez' contract.

the yankees were also able to hit wakefield and clement, who they usually do poorly against.  now they need to learn how to pummel schilling.

may 18, 2006:
YOU GO CHINABOY!!!   he pitched 8 strong innings and only threw 81 pitches.  the final score was yankees 4, texas 3.  texas has a strong hitting team, so to go 8 innings and giving up only 3 runs is pretty damn good.  he threw one bad pitch that went for a 2 run home run (the only earned runs of the game).  that was only the 2nd HR he's given up this season.   when they brought mariano in in the 9th inning, i was holding my breath the entire time.  mariano isn't the same mariano of the past, i don't care what anyone says, but it was 3 up and 3 down for a perfect 9th... whew.

May 16, 2006:
the yankees were down 9 - 0 against the texas rangers today and they came back and won the game!!!  posady finally earned his salary.  this was the first time i ever saw him stand his ground while someone was barreling towards him.  it was also the first time where he had a great all around game - offense and defense.  this is what he gets paid for.  of course mariano rivera came in and lost the lead, but as i said, posady was the hero and won it for the yanks (it was actually a team effort - jeter's 3 run homer).  here's the box score:

as you can see, the yanks just kept chipping away.  i actually started watching it when it was 10 - 1...  AWESOME!!!

April 2006

April 20, 2006:
here's a shortened version (that i've taken the liberty to edit) of the chinaboy's theme song.  if you want the full version, rt. click here and save to your HD.   he's the future top pitcher of the yankees, as long as he stays healthy (not to mention i've got his autographed rookie card).  if you don't know who i'm talking about, scroll down.

April 16, 2006:
ALRIGHT CHINABOY!!!   he kicked butt today.  he had the best outing of any of the pitchers so far and had a career high 8 strikeouts thru 7 innings.  YOU GO CHINABOY!  of course the stupid japanese dude hideki matsui made an error and let a run in.  you'd better not do that again.  now you know why japanese and chinese don't get along.

DECEMBER 2005

December 20, 2005:
well well well... i was right. if you go down to my november 30 posting, you will notice i mentioned the yankees were trying to get johnny damon and whaddaya know... he's a yankee now 4 years, 52 million  - that's $13 million / year to those of you a little weak in the math department. he's their new lead-off hitter.  bye-bye bernie!

December 7, 2005:
the marlins just traded juan pierre over to the cubs.  what's up with the yankees???  they've been too quiet during the off-season.  of course spring training is months away and i know the yankees wanna cut back on salary cuz they've been in the hole by $50 - 85 million for the last 2 or so years... whatever.  i'm hoping they're going to get a CF soon, although bubba had been doing ok by the end of the season cuz donnie had been working on his hitting.  oh well, just gotta sit back and wait.

December 2, 2005:
the yankees just signed free agent reliever Kyle Farnsworth to a 3 year $17M contract.  last year he had a 2.17ERA with 80 SO, 27 BB, in 70 innings.  not bad.  he's supposed to be flash gordon's replacement.  flash went over to the phillies to be their closer since they lost wagner to the mets.  farnsworth's record is pretty comparable to flash's record.  the yankees still desparately need middle relief help.  they also need a good lefty which they've never had (i never liked stanton).

it has also been mentioned they may get juan pierre from the marlins.  now he's a good center fielder.  he's 28, a true leadoff hitter, which the yanks haven't had since chucky left in 2001, has good speed (57 SB in 74 attempts), career BA of .305, and hits lefties better than righties.  the marlins are asking for lefty sean henn and righty scott proctor... the yankees should take this deal.

the yanks were originally trying to get johnny damon, but his agent wanted a 7 year contract.  juan pierre would be a smarter choice.

NOVEMBER 2005

November 30, 2005:
so today i just read that someone in the yankee organization had suggested a-rod or jeter fill the weak center field position... i just wanna know whose frickin' suggestion was that???  was it the same person who suggested bringing kevin brown to the pitching staff???  was it the same person who suggested bringing womack or vasquez or loaiza or stanton or hammon or weaver???   good thing i'm not steinbrenner otherwise whoever that "genius" is would be relegated to being the new ballboy and skippy (the much televised ballboy) would be taking over that position.

it has also been mentioned that the yankees are trying to get damon and keeping the entire thing hush hush.  that's to take over center.  that's more the way to go.

November 26, 2005:
ok, now onto the yankees and what they need to do to get their act together:

* definitely get rid of bernie williams and get ichiro from the mariners to play center. ichiro has the speed, gets the hits, gets the steals, has a great arm, scores the runs, you name it.

* get bj ryan from the orioles. they've needed a quality lefty reliever for the longest time. quit dilly-dallying and get him signed already!!! i never
thought mike stanton was a quality lefty... *UPDATE* - bj ryan is going to toronto.  turns out, he was never interested in coming to the yankees and being mariano's setup man.  he wants to stay a closer... whatever.  that's also why flash gordon wants to leave.  uh-oh...

as far as i'm concerned, those 2 things are the only top priority things they've gotta do. although... they're gonna need a good defensive 1st baseman cuz they let go of tino.

lets go chinaboy!!!  for those of you who don't know who i'm talking about, it's chien ming wang.

he's the next generation and the yankees would be nuts to trade him cuz he's what they've been looking for - young talented pitcher who can handle new york fans and reporters (although i think it helps alot that he can't speak english too well).

this picture just doesn't look right.  keep it in the club house guys... this may be why they haven't won the world series in a long time...

not only are they about to kiss, but sheff is grabbing jeter's ass.
